In response to these figures, Leigh Hancock, Product Marketing Manager at Dell SA says: "As a company we felt it important to make a contribution to the halting of the spread of this epidemic in our country. Hence our decision to donate a Pentium III Latitude notebook to the Institute For HIV Management, an organisation geared at assisting babies and infants suffering from, or affected by, HIV/AIDS."
"Our work focuses on urban townships and rural settlements, simply because the need seems to be greatest there, and available resources are limited," explains Dr Lesley Szabo, Principal Director of The Institute For HIV Management.
According to Dr Szabo, the Institute addresses both the day-to-day needs of its patients, and also educates the greater community regarding the realities and myths` surrounding AIDS. "It is in the area of education that we required a quality notebook with CD-ROM and DVD capability," she explains. "We have a fully interactive educational CD-ROM, that focuses on informing community members on the disease, how it is transmitted and other pertinent facts. However, without the proper equipment it is impossible to screen it effectively. In order for us to reach our goals within these communities, a notebook is vital."
According to Dr Szabo, a fund raising event scheduled for September will greatly assist in providing the resources needed to drive these Educational Programmes even further into the aforementioned communities.
Dr Szabo concludes: "The notebook provided by Dell will be one of our `key` tools when implementing these training programmes, without companies like Dell it would be impossible to continue fighting the epidemic."
