Johannesburg, 13 Mar 2003

For consumers and small business customers who demand portable performance at an outstanding price, Dell today introduced two new notebook computers, the wireless-ready Inspiron 5100 and the Inspiron 1100.

Starting at R15 150 including VAT and delivery, and R14 240 including VAT and delivery respectively, the two systems are powered by Intel Pentium 4 up to 2.4GHz and Celeron processors up to 2GHz, and include large 14.1-inch and optional 15-inch desktop class displays and multimedia features. The new Inspirons also deliver a new stylish look, sporting a new Moonlight Silver base accented by a Venice blue display cover.

"These notebooks offer users robust performance without any additional price premium for portability," said Ben McDonald, Product Manager Client Products of Dell South Africa. "Consumers and small business professionals have validated the need for a notebook that goes easily from place to place, but includes all the features and performance of a desktop."

Designed for customers who need a powerful and flexible system, the Inspiron 5100 easily manages digital media like music, photos and movies, wireless computing, and productivity applications. Managing and transferring large amounts of data or multimedia files is quick work with the choice of two USB 2.0 ports and an IEEE 1394 port. Staying connected is straightforward via integrated modem and Ethernet, and integrated Wi-Fi (802.11b) capability is available for an additional approx R1 000.

For users who want an economical notebook computer for essential tasks like e-mail, word processing and other productivity applications, the Inspiron 1100 is an affordable portable computer. The 1100 also features a variety of connectivity options including integrated modem and Ethernet, USB 2.0, and S-Video out.
