Dell SA has announced that the Dell Precision Workstation 340 is available for order locally. According to Sean Wainer, enterprise product manager at Dell SA, the Precision 340 is designed to appeal to customers looking for high performance machines at an entry-level price and for users working in cramped environments where space is at a premium.
Some of the most appealing features of this product include its workstation application-focused performance. "It offers a single Intel Pentium 4 processor at speeds of up to 2.0GHz utilising the Intel 850 chipset with a 400MHz system bus and supports dual-channel RDRAM memory for ultimate workstation-class performance," says Wainer.
The new graphic cards available for the Dell Precision 340 include the ATI Rage 128, a card for general office needs; the ATI Radeon VE with dual capability for either analogue VGA or digital flat-panel DVI outputs; as well as NVIDIA`s Quadro2EX graphics card which provides real-time per-pixel lighting.
To complete this package, users are given a choice of two small, rack-mountable chassis. Says Wainer: "Customers can choose either a mini-tower chassis for expandability or a small desktop chassis, which is Dell`s smallest workstation. Also bear in mind that this Precision offers tool-less and easy access to all internal components."
Customers can purchase customised rack kits from Dell Software and Peripherals to mount the Precision 340 in racks. When it comes to operating systems, the 340 can be ordered with Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional and comes Windows XP Professional ready. The product is also certified with Red Hat Linux 7.1 and will be available in select configurations in November.
"Dell is committed to providing the performance, value and optimisation required by workstation customers," comments Wainer.
