Dell redefines value in business notebooks

By PR Connections
Johannesburg, 20 Mar 2001

Dell has announced that it is reducing prices on its entire line of Latitude corporate notebook PCs by up to 23 percent in March. According to Leigh Hancock, product marketing manager at Dell SA, this move offers additional benefits to Dell customers eager to acquire mobile computing technology.

Dell is in the position to immediately pass on cost savings associated with component cost declines, making these current price reductions possible. Hancock says this fact also helped Dell grow its EMEA notebook business 52 percent year on year in unit terms, at 1.4 times the notebook market rate in the fourth quarter of 2000.

A -ready Latitude C600 notebook, with an Intel Pentium III processor at 850 MHz, 128 MB of SDRAM, 6.0 GB IDE hard disk drive, CD-ROM and Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system, is priced at R18 490 - a 14 percent reduction. A Latitude C800, also wireless-ready, with a Pentium III processor at 850 MHz, 128 MB of SDRAM, 16 MB VRAM, 10.0 GB IDE hard disk drive, CD-ROM and Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system is reduced by up to 14 percent to R23 990. Prices for the mainstream Latitude CPt start as low as R10 990 - excluding VAT and delivery.

Hancock adds that with the desktop-notebook performance delta narrowing, there has never been a better time to go mobile. "We are confident that by providing our customers with current mobile technology, such as our new 802.11 TrueMobile wireless solutions, we are enhancing value in the industry."

Dell`s Latitude notebook line is designed for customers who value a low total cost of ownership (TCO), a consistent and reliable product, managed technology transitions and optimum performance in a connected environment. Latitude systems come with a standard three-year limited plan with next-business-day on-site service.
