Dell refreshes basic business desktop

OptiPlex GX60 brings simplicity, latest technology to task-based computing
Johannesburg, 21 Oct 2002

Dell South Africa, the leading server provider for small to medium-sized businesses, today announced availability of the OptiPlex GX60, a desktop computer designed for simple task computing in managed environments where serviceability and reliability are a prerequisite.

The GX60, which replaces the GX50 as the primary basic desktop in the OptiPlex line, features an Intel Celeron processor (400MHz FSB) with embedded 10/100 networking, video and audio. Further enhancements include PC2100 DDR shared (i) SDRAM for better memory performance, ATA-100 EIDE controller for faster hard drive throughput, USB 2.0 for faster peripheral access and Alert Standard Format (ASF 1.0) support, a means by which system administrators can be alerted to problems when the OS is either absent altogether or cannot boot completely.

The GX60 incorporates Ready Now! capability and a highly efficient Power Factor Correcting (PFC) power supply. These features are designed to increase productivity through reduced system boot and login times, while decreasing power consumption.

"Many of our customers need a reliable, basic desktop computer, such as on a factory floor or in a call centre," said Leigh Hancock, Product Marketing and Communications Manager for Dell South Africa. "The GX60 builds on the success of the popular GX50 by enhancing performance substantially without added cost."

A typical OptiPlex GX60 small desktop configuration sells for RXXX (ii) (without monitor), and includes Intel`s 1.7GHz Celeron processor, 256MB DDR SDRAM, 20GB (iii) 7200RPM hard disk drive, embedded Intel PRO/100 M ASF-compliant networking, embedded Intel Extreme video and embedded AC-97 audio, 48X maximum CD-ROM drive, floppy diskette drive, Microsoft Windows XP Professional as well as a three-year limited warranty (iv) and next-business-day onsite service (v). A sealed bay option (no optical or floppy drives) is also available starting at RXXX (without monitor). Complete product details can be found at www.dell.com/optiplex.

The OptiPlex product line is supported by Dell Services, which can help lower customers` cost of computing with a full suite of computing services including deployment and after-sale support. Complete information on Dell Services is available at www.dell.com/services.
