Dell refreshes SME storage
“There are still a lot of customers out there who haven't made that first step towards a server,” says Tony Parkinson, Dell director of SME. He adds that not having a server introduces risk because of potential downtime.
“SMEs are still running or trying to run their infrastructure on the desktop. We really want to help them move away from that architecture because it's not scalable.”
According to Dell, the entry-level PowerEdge T110 II and mid-market PowerEdge R210 II servers both ship with Intel's Sandy Bridge processors.
The company claims the servers have the performance and features to run business applications that facilitate data coordination and sharing, protection, management and scalability to support business growth, states CIOL.
Antonio Julio, executive director, Dell worldwide SMEs, says: “One question we understandably get from SMEs when they're confronting the task of managing their data, is whether to keep it on-premises or in the cloud.
“These products are ideal for companies laying the foundation for the data they choose to keep onsite.”
According to IT Pro, Dell is also offering storage options in the form of the PowerVault NX3500 Network Attached Storage system for smaller scale, high availability deployments.
IDC claims the capacity of storage systems shipped in the fourth quarter of 2010 grew more than 55% from a year earlier.
