Dell refutes faulty PC accusations

Dell last week refuted accusations that it was withholding evidence in connection with a long-running case charging the PC maker of willingly selling faulty PCs, ARN notes.

Web hosting provider Advanced Technologies (AIT) filed a motion accusing Dell of withholding evidence and failing to produce documents in its possession, according to a court filing.

AIT's motion sought sanctions against Dell.

Acer to ship 3.2m notebooks

Acer shipped under two million notebooks in July 2010, much fewer than expected mainly due to inventory adjustment, according to Taiwan-based component makers, writes DigiTimes.

As Acer shipped nearly 1.5 million notebooks in the first half of August, shipments for the whole month are forecast at 3.2 million units, the sources pointed out.

Acer has internally maintained its 2010 target shipments at 40 million notebooks, the sources indicated.

School turns WiFi hotspot

At Oak Hills High, one of the largest high schools in Barbados, students will get new laptops and desktop computers at school, or they can bring their own laptops to use in class this school year, says Cincinnati.com.

The school will become a massive hotspot, where students can use Macs, tablet PCs, or even iPads to complete assignments, do research, participate in class discussions and turn in papers online.

Eventually iPods and cellphones could become part of student's 'virtual desktops', said Todd Yohey, superintendent.
