Dell SA announced availability of its first Latitude notebook with a 15 inch SXGA+ screen, the Latitude C800. The standard configuration price for this model starts at R27, 310, excluding VAT and delivery, and includes a three-year service plan.
"The product features an Intel Pentium III 850MHz processor, 24X CD-ROM optical drive, 128 MB RAM, 10.0GB hard disk drive, floppy disk drive and ATI Mobility 128 with 16MB video SGRAM," comments Leigh Hancock, product-marketing manager at Dell SA.
Representing the top-end of the corporate notebook performance category, this Latitude includes a built-in antenna enabling integrated 802.11b wireless local area networking when the optional radio component becomes available as planned by year-end. Hancock says this laptop can be easily configured, using the CD-ROM, DVD or CD-RW in the fixed optical drive, allowing, for example, the simultaneous use of a CD-ROM and a CD-RW drive.
Also included is an enhanced video sub-system including Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP 4X) and up to 32MB video SGRAM, along with the Dell DualPoint integrated pointing device, which gives users the choice of using either a touch pad, or a track stick as a pointing mechanism.
Hancock says the combination of high-speed wireless connectivity and graphics capability makes the Latitude C800 ideal for graphic illustrators, designers, database developers or Web site builders who require mobility and constant access to the Internet or a company`s intranet infrastructure. "Dell designs its Latitude notebook line for customers who value a low total cost of ownership, a consistent and reliable product, managed technology transitions and optimum performance in a connected environment," concludes Hancock.
