Dell South Africa continues empowering new possibilities for youth at Christel House

Cape Town, 08 Aug 2012

Dell South Africa is focused on developing literate and connected communities centred on quality education. On Tuesday, it participated in a handover event with Christel House South Africa. The school aims to break the cycle of poverty by equipping learners with tools to build a life of dignity, success and self-sufficiency.

This is the third year that Dell is partnering with Christel House by investing a further R1 000 000 to its cause. By providing access to technology, the Christel House learners, who with the help of the school are being shaped to become leaders in our country, Dell believes that it is achieving this objective.

According to Stewart van Graan, General Manager of Dell Africa: “Our initiatives to support learning aim to provide new possibilities for our youth by bridging the gap between the technology 'haves' and the 'have-nots'. Dell hopes to take learning and technology to the next level at Christel House South Africa by enabling, inspiring and preparing the students to connect, learn, and grow with their peers.”

This initiative forms an integral part of Dell's “Powering the Possible” programme and initiatives, aimed at addressing the existing need to equip young adults with both life and educational skills through a combination of Dell donated technology, expertise and employee volunteerism. It provides the opportunities for young people to discover new possibilities, change their lives, and unleash their true potential, giving them a future to look forward to.

This year, Dell's investment will contribute towards supplying Christel House with 20 desktop computers, a printer, two Latitude Laptops, 32 16GB flash drives and two Flip cameras. In addition to this, Dell is also investing in additional training for teachers at the school.

Dell prides itself on focusing on real transformation within the communities it calls home, and is proud to be involved with the transformation in organisations like Christel House.

“It is only through improving social conditions that business conditions can be improved, and education is an essential tool to drive this transformation,” concludes Van Graan.
