StorageTek has announced a worldwide relationship with Dell Computer under which Dell will OEM StorageTek`s high-performance automated 9730 tape library.
This agreement leverages Dell`s broad, global direct sales channels to provide Windows NT users the benefits of StorageTek`s tape automation technology. Dell will brand the StorageTek 9730 tape library as the PowerVault 130T.
"As Dell broadens its portfolio of enterprise systems, reliable, scalable backup solutions are critical for our PowerVault line of storage products," says Kevin Reinis, director of PowerVault Product Marketing for Dell. "We partnered with StorageTek because it leads the industry in tape automation."
There is a growing need for reliable backup, access and restore options in the Windows NT market. As e-mail volumes and company data increase, customers need reliable storage. StorageTek`s tape automation is ideal for backup, access and restore.
By integrating StorageTek`s tape technology, Dell joins other StorageTek partners who have chosen StorageTek`s tape automation to complement their server offerings. StorageTek has signed strategic partnerships with many leading server vendors including Bull, Hewlett-Packard, NCR, Sequentand Silicon Graphics.
The Dell PowerVault 130T tape library holds over 2TB of compressed data (10 million text pages), with transfer rates of up to 144GB an hour and an average access time of less than six seconds. It can support up to 4 DLT 7000 or DLT 4000 tape drives.
StorageTek products are distributed in South Africa by CMS, a company in the MGX Holdings group.
