Dell unveils low-cost PCs

Dell has unveiled several new computers made specifically for emerging PC markets like China and India, says Cnet.

There are four new models in all under the Vostro line, two laptops and two desktops.

The notebooks will start at $475, and the desktops at $440, and will be available in more than 20 countries in Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Europe.

IOGEAR introduces KVM switch

Interface and connection device maker IOGEAR has introduced its USB Laptop KVM (keyboard, video and mouse) Switch, which allows users to control two computers, desktops or notebooks, or one of each, with one set of peripherals, states Electronista.

IOGEAR claims its newest release is the first such product that will allow a notebook to control the whole of a second PC, including its display output.

The KVM switch uses a USB 2.0 connection and includes IOGEAR's that allows users to transfer files between the connected PCs.

SSD market explodes

The popularity of low-cost PCs around the world is driving "explosive growth" for small capacity solid state drives, Samsung said as it announced three new models of the device, reports Networkworld.

SSDs are made from NAND flash memory chips and are used to store software, songs, pictures, documents and other on computers.

The drives hold several advantages over common hard disk drives, including being speedier, lighter, quieter, and they use far less power.
