Dell unveils next-gen storage

Dell debuted a portfolio of products and services specifically designed to help businesses become more efficient throughout the IT life cycle and maximise their most valuable resources: people, time and money, says Nation Multi Media.

The combination of innovative software and services with next-generation storage and server products, offers customers technology solutions specifically designed to cut costs and increase efficiency.

Data centre operations require a holistic view to reduce overall operational costs, whether that is people, time or money over a technology life cycle, says Michelle Bailey, vice-president of enterprise platforms and data centre trends at IDC.

Sun Microsystems has made available the OpenSolaris 2009.06 operating system, which included for the first time Sun's Crossbow technology for creating virtual network infrastructure on a single system, reports Computer World.

The latest version of the open source operating system also includes flash storage technology and integration with Microsoft's CIFS file system, along with support for OpenSolaris as a control domain for virtual environments.

Sun called Crossbow's network virtualisation and resource management the largest rewrite to its networking stack in more than a decade.

Infortrend Technology, a network storage solutions provider, has announced the addition of 2U and 4U models to its EonStor G6 8Gbps fibre channel (FC) SAN solutions, states Computer Technology Review.

The additional form factors highlight Infortrend's efforts to help more users meet their application requirements. Infortrend's advanced storage systems feature high-speed 8G FC technology, powerful scalability and high reliability.

With Infortrend's enhancements to the EonStor G6 family, four new models - S12F-R1840/ S12F G1840 and S24F-R1840/S24F-G1840, utilise Infortrend's technology in developing 8Gbps FC SAN storage systems.
