Dell ups green cred
Computer manufacturer Dell made a bid to raise its green credentials on World Environment Day, held on 5 June, states Which.
Dell used the opportunity to join the Prince's Rainforests Project - an environmental charity founded by the Prince of Wales. The charity aims to raise awareness for the link between rainforests and climate change and the need to stop deforestation.
The news follows a report on guardian.co.uk that Dell is banning the export of electronic waste to developing countries.
KPMG embraces green IT
Accounting firms are not among the most carbon-intensive companies, but the greenhouse gas emissions generated by business trips, paper use and purchased electricity can add up, says Reuters.
KPMG, one of the 'Big Four' public accounting firms, first began analysing its US carbon footprint in 2007 and developed a formal strategy to reduce it called 'Living Green'.
The programme set several three-year environmental goals, including boosting alternative transportation by 5% and cutting its greenhouse gas emissions by a quarter.
Kodak sets green goals
Kodak says it plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions and ensure all its new products are energy efficient by 2012 under a set of new 'worldwide sustainability goals,' reports Democrat and Chronicle.
The company also wants to lower its employee injury rate. This is the fourth set of goals Kodak has voluntarily committed to since the 1990s.
Under the 'responsible growth' goals set in 2006, the company reduced energy use and greenhouse gas emissions by 40% from a 2002 baseline, preventing what the company says would have been 1.1 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
