Dell's Mini 3 unveiled

Dell has unveiled the Android-based Mini 3 smartphone, adding that it will be available soon in China and Brazil, states PC World.

Venturing away from the familiar server and desktop foundation that Dell is built on may seem risky, but there is a method to Dell's madness that may just pay off.

Ever since rumours began to circulate earlier this year that Dell was planning a move into smartphones there have been naysayers. However, the move by Dell into smartphones is not a desperate hail-mary, but a calculated strategy. A mobile phone is no longer just a mobile phone, it is a mobile computing device.

Nook e-reader on sale soon

The Nook, a $259 e-reader from Barnes & Noble, will hit the booksellers' stores on 30 November, says Computerworld.

That's in time for holiday shoppers, but too late for 'Black Friday,' 27 November, the traditional day of pre-holiday sales by retailers.

In-store signs began advertising the sales date recently, although Barnes & Noble didn't issue a press release announcing the actual date. When it announced the e-reader on 20 October, it only said sales would start in late November, meaning it will meet that commitment with no room to spare.

Yealink intros multimedia phone

In a move to bring affordable visual communication to the masses by delivering the free face-to-face video call, Chinese IP phone maker Yealink announced the availability of its VP-2009 IP multimedia phone, according to TMCnet.

Flaunting seven inches of touch-screen interface, the VP-2009 is easy to use, equipped with a TI Davinci chipset and supported by H.263 and H.264 codec technology. Its intuitive touch-screen makes the phone an option for SMEs and consumers who want to make quick video-and-voice-over-IP calls right from their work space, according to Yealink.

The SIP-based VP-2009 is also adaptive to adjustments, when the network environment is not so desirable.
