In line with the South African Revenue Service`s (SARS) determined drive into the technological age, encouraging taxpayers to shift to electronic transactions, Deloitte & Touche has developed a South African first with its Intell-E Tax service, created specifically for individuals, expatriates within and outside South Africa and for high net-worth individuals.
John Stanley, partner at Deloitte & Touche`s Global Employment and Individual Solutions division claims that the new service significantly streamlines the information gathering and calculation process which precedes submission of tax forms to SARS. Explaining the motives for developing the e-service, Stanley said, "Our client base is growing rapidly and is increasingly dispersed throughout the world. We needed a streamlined, integrated system that would provide high degrees of accuracy, ensure tax compliance, facilitate the organisation of information and significantly speed up the entire process. It is also a move away from a paper environment, in line with global trends."
Deloitte & Touche co-operated with MyTax.co.za, a SARS appointed e-Filing Service Provider, to develop an integrated electronic tax solution to cater for Individual (IT12) and Provisional (IRP6) tax returns.
Rob Nowicki, CEO of MyTax.co.za commented: "We had already developed an Internet based product which facilitates the electronic submission of provisional tax returns. By enhancing it with the assistance of Deloitte & Touche, we were able to produce a sophisticated, integrated and streamlined solution for Deloitte & Touche`s requirements."
The on-line organiser gives clients the facility to supply the required tax information from anywhere in the world. Through review of the online information, Deloitte & Touche tax experts can exercise the necessary controls for completeness and accuracy after which the software will convert the information into IT12 format for electronic submission to SARS.
In reducing the amount of time normally required for the information gathering and calculation procedures, the on-line Intell-E Tax service enables deadlines to be met more easily.
"It also frees up a great deal of time which can be more profitably and constructively used to resolve the frequently very complex tax issues arising from different countries` tax rules," commented Stanley. "This obviously adds even more value to the service we provide our clients."
The end-to-end process is the first of its kind in South Africa. Deloitte & Touche can already submit IRP6 forms electronically on behalf of their clients, also making payments on line. It is envisaged that this method will apply to IT12 forms by 2003 as well.
