Denel Personnel Solutions (DPS), the labour broker and bureau services group in the Denel group of companies, has implemented Solit's Tilos Suite, a total workflow based self-service solution.
Solit's e-business software solutions enable the integration and automation of business processes within enterprises and among trading communities using the Internet. Tilos is an employee self-service system designed to empower managers and employees to access and update data relating to them and their jobs, allowing for true e-business in human resources.
"In March, following the internal pilot project, we will launch the service to over 150 personnel and roll it out to other sites, beginning with Denel Aviation," says Braam Ras, executive manager, logistical support at DPS.
Ultimately, Ras says, DPS is planning to roll the solution out to its customers countrywide with a total of between 3 000 and 4 000 users. "Because we work with thousands of people and their daily queries, paperwork can bog down the current manual system. We are eliminating paper from the process while speeding it up and empowering employees to solve as many issues as possible, online via the wide area network," says Ras.
DPS provides recruitment services, human resources consulting, industrial relations services, staff financing services, payroll administration and security services to its customers, two of which are the South African National Defence Force and Denel. Says Victoria Vaksman, a director at Solit: "Many of the processes undertaken by human resources departments are paper-based and time-consuming. For this reason, a growing number of companies are implementing self-service systems, empowering managers and employees to update details that relate to them and their jobs. This helps reduce costs and allows the HR department to concentrate on more strategic services, and to improve employee job satisfaction."
The solution lets employees or managers complete leave forms, change personal details, review company policy, and view current and historic payslips. Managers can approve or reject applications or enquire on current, pending or completed transactions. Human resources staff can focus on managing employees while information is captured, validated, approved and then automatically posted into the HR and payroll system.
"The solution allows employees to update their information anytime, anywhere they have access to a browser, WAP phone or kiosk. Its functionality is organised around major customer and employee events that impact an organisation. Customisable processes are organised into application solutions that include employee life and work events. The graphical, Web-based process viewer assists users by walking them through transactions with which they may not be familiar," says Vaksman.
DPS is running a kiosk system pilot project. The kiosk system will allow employees on a factory floor without Internet access or a wide area network to personally modify their employee details on the system, and to access important employee information.
