Desktop functionality for notebook users

Johannesburg, 05 Oct 2009

Acer SA has unveiled its 22-inch Notebook Upgrade Kit which allows mobile users to plug into a USB desktop set-up when they're not travelling.

The solution provides notebook users with an ergonomic mouse, keyboard and large-screen LCD solution for use at their desktops, states the company.

Acer says the 22-inch Notebook Upgrade Kit cuts peripheral connectivity hassles for notebook users by reducing the required video, audio and input device cables to just one USB-plug. The centrepiece of the solution is a large 22-inch display with easily adjusted height and pivot functionality.

The 22-inch widescreen offers VGA-to-USB graphic transition technology, a contrast ratio of 10 000:1, a viewing angle of 170 degrees, and 5ms response rates, explains the company.

In addition to the single-USB and VGA graphic interfaces, the 22-inch Notebook Upgrade Kit also supports up to five USB displays for users who want to run more than one screen, adds Acer.

The upgrade kit consumes less energy than standard displays and supports a real power-off button. Acer displays have been developed with improved power usage efficiency, with consumption values lower than the Energy Star V4.1 standard, the company concludes.
