The board's first task will be to develop a whole-of-government ICT strategy for NSW, which spends about $2 billion annually on IT and communications.
CIO states the appointment involves ensuring existing and emerging technologies are effectively aligned with agency and whole-of-government objectives. Baird will retain his current position at Deutsche Bank.
Baird has more than 30 years' experience in ICT in industries spanning financial services, research, telecoms and hardware. He has held senior roles at BT Global Services, Credit Suisse, Grant Thornton and Toshiba International.
In an IT News report, finance minister Greg Pearce says Baird was chosen from a pool of almost 200 applicants for his experience in change management and implementing “ICT solutions that align with business goals”.
“As chair of the Industry Advisory Panel, Baird will be tasked with ensuring that prevailing and emerging technologies are effectively aligned with agency and whole-of-government objectives,” explains Pearce.
