Dark Fibre Africa (DFA) has appointed Praveen Govender as the chief sales and marketing officer.
According to DFA, Govender will lead the formulation and execution of DFA's sales strategy, as well as the company's customer engagement strategy.
It says Govender has 15 years of extensive ICT experience, spanning telecommunication networks, networking, software, hardware, consulting and professional services.
His most recent roles in senior management include communications sector consulting lead at IBM, software division country manager at HP, and regional sales manager at Cisco.
He has also worked for several other multinationals, including Siemens, Alcatel and Speech Design.
Govender holds a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
According to Thinus Mulder, CEO of DFA, Govender's diverse experience in developing and implementing customer relationship management plans, along with the wide network he has cultivated across this sector of business, make him an excellent addition to DFA's executive team.
"His focus on building long-term relationships and evolving interactions with customers into partnerships that enable growth for both parties particularly resonates with DFA."
It is an exhilarating time for the industry at the moment, as more and more South Africans get connected to fast and efficient high speed connectivity, says Govender.
"The company is at an exciting stage in its growth right now, and I look forward to being a part of that evolution."
Dark Fibre Africa has also made some changes to its executive portfolio.
In July, it announced the appointment of Thinus Mulder as CEO of DFA. Mulder moved from his role as CFO and Cilliers Steyn was appointed as the new CFO.
Mulder had been preparing to take up the reins of the company since March when DFA announced Gustav Smit would retire at the end of June.
Smit co-founded DFA nine years ago and helped grow the company to the extent that today it employs over 400 people and has built out an open access fibre network of more than 9 000km.
DFA owns a carrier-neutral dark fibre infrastructure for the transmission of primarily metro telecommunications traffic.
