Dimension Data Holdings` global telecommunications strategy has been boosted with the awarding this week of a US$6,2-million contract to the group`s operating company in the Philippines.
This brings to 45 the number of telecommunications companies (telcos) around the world - including traditional fixed line operators as well as cellular network and Internet service providers - which are Dimension Data customers.
Globe Telecom, a Philippine subsidiary of Singapore Telecom International, a full-service telecommunications company which offers fixed line and cellular mobile telephone services, has appointed the local subsidiary of Datacraft - Dimension Data`s Asian business - to build its new broadband network.
"The telco market is the Group`s most important vertical market industries and forms an essential element of our globalisation strategy," says Richard Came, group marketing director at Dimension Data Holdings.
"The Group`s globalisation strategy centres around using its dominant position in the network integration arena as the base for offering commercial infrastructure development services as well as e-commerce and other value-added applications services which enhance competitiveness. Telcos clearly have a vital role to play in this vision.
"While Dimension Data supplies numerous telcos in the Far East - in China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Taiwan - the Globe Telecom contract is our first significant breakthrough into the Philippine`s telco market," Came adds.
Other countries in which Dimension Data`s telco strategy is playing out include Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Belgium, German, Switzerland, the US and South Africa.
In the Philippines, the new network will enable Globe Telecom - which operates the country`s largest GSM (cellular) network and is that country`s second largest mobile phone service provider - to offer its customers integrated solutions for voice, data and video.
Work on the contract is already underway.
