Dimension Data Holdings has entered a global agreement with Nasdaq- and LSE-listed Orchestream Holdings in terms of which DiData will integrate Orchestream products within its global services operating architecture.
London-headquartered Orchestream provides service activation and performance management software to the telecommunications industry.
DiData says it will also integrate Orchestream products within its integrated business operations support systems (iBoss).
The services will be available immediately, and the companies say they are already actively engaged in identifying joint opportunities.
Andrew Caralambous, Orchestream senior vice president of global sales, says the DiData agreement strengthens his company`s position in delivering next-generation Internet protocol services to telecommunications companies.
"New and traditional telecommunications companies are under enormous pressure to meet the combined challenges of telecommunications deregulation, commoditisation of basic bandwidth offerings, the growing adoption of e-commerce and the emergence of new technologies which make it easier for new competitors to enter the telco market.
"The combination of Orchestream and a global network services and i-Commerce solutions provider like Dimension Data ensures that our customers will have immediate access to the technologies and skills necessary to activate new services more rapidly and efficiently," he says.
He adds that DiData is uniquely qualified to support Orchestream`s customers worldwide through its global presence, the global services operating architecture and iBoss.
Rob Lopez, DiData`s chief technology officer for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, says iBoss is based on a highly flexible and adaptable architecture.
"Drawing on its experience as pioneer and leader of the TM Forum Plug-and-Play Catalyst project, Dimension Data enhanced iBoss by basing it on a plug-and-play architecture. As a result, iBoss lowers the integration barriers of time and cost and can be used to implement new, customer-focused services faster," he says.
"This dovetails with Orchestream`s offering which sits at the core of the IP operations support system and integrates fully with the billing, fault management and performance measurement capacity of iBoss.
"Together, Dimension Data and Orchestream will be positioned to deliver a full suite of innovative IP services to communications service providers," he adds.
The Dimension Data share was trading 40c or 2.5% lower at R15.60 on the JSE late this morning.
