Dimension Data (DiData) has been selected to participate in EMC's Velocity2 Signature Solutions Centre partnership programme.
As part of the programme with EMC, DiData will enable its customers looking to adopt a virtual environment to test drive applications before purchasing expensive hardware infrastructure.
Customers are able to test their applications in either a fibre channel or network-attached environment and see live demonstrations of back-up technologies they would not ordinarily be able to test in their own environments.
George Sithole, pre-sales manager for DiData's data centre solutions, says the company decided to drive this initiative after the integrator joined the Virtual Computing Environment (VCE) coalition rolled out earlier this year.
The VCE coalition is a partnership between VMware, Cisco and EMC to provide the modular cloud computing 'Vblock' solution, which is being facilitated by DiData to accelerate business' journeys into virtualised environments.
According to Sithole, DiData has laid out plans to offer its customers a complete integration of VCE hardware and software services.
“If a customer cannot afford to make expensive capital investments, they can come to the solutions centre at DiData's headquarters to stress test their applications with other environments. At the end of the day, it removes risk from the customer side around purchasing technology that does not fit with their applications and strategy.”
Sithole explains that the solutions centre provides demonstrations on desktop and server virtualisation, data backup and recovery and data deduplication.
The next step for DiData is to show customers long-distance data deduplication connected to its solution centre in Brussels. However, Sithole maintains nothing has yet been finalised and DiData is in discussions to expand its current investment showing data replication failover over long distances.
