Imagine a home where every room offers quick access to online data and where every part of your lifestyle, from entertainment and work, to cooking or calling the kids for dinner, is made easy by digital technology.
Well, this may not be as far removed from reality as you think! Bring the whole family along to explore South Africa's first Digital Home, star attraction of the DigitalLife Expo, at the Sandton Convention Centre from 18 to 20 April 2008.
At the push of a button, you will be able to enjoy high-definition viewing of your favourite videos, sporting events or television sitcom. Bring music and movies to life with surround-sound speakers or pit your skill against the latest Internet games on the gaming console.
Time spent in the kitchen becomes a breeze - select your favourite recipe from the Internet and preset your smart appliances. With a cordless phone in every room, staying in touch with friends is simple. No more searching high and low for the kids, just use the internal intercom facility.
One lucky visitor to the expo will win R250 000 worth of digital technology on show in the Digital Home. This life-sized, walk-through home, sponsored by "Do Broadband, powered by Telkom" with its integrated digital lifestyle technologies, will demonstrate everything that the digital lifestyle has to offer.
The home will play host to a star-studded cast of celebrities including Miss South Africa, Idols winner Jody Williams and second placed Andriette Norman, both of whom will be performing live at the expo! You can also expect to meet Survivor winner Lorette Mostert; and fourth-placed Mandla Mbau; as well as Isidingo's 'Barker Haines', aka Robert Whitehead, and Sophie Ndaba aka Queen Moroka of Generations, among others.
And it's not all just hi-tech glass and steel. Acclaimed interior decorator, Lynne Blumberg, used textured fabrics and wallpapers to create a trendy, inviting feel for the home, into which digital technologies of every kind are seamlessly integrated. Its contents, valued at R250 000, will be won by one lucky expo visitor and the prize will be presented by Isidingo's Barker Haines.
Other main attractions include the Mobile & Personal Technology Pavilion, sponsored by Virgin Mobile; the Digital Retail Store, sponsored by Incredible Connection; the Digital Bank of the Future, sponsored by Absa; the Car Zone, sponsored by BMW; and the Digital Life on the Go Pavilion, sponsored by MTN.
Several free 45-minute workshops are also available, and topics range from photography and digital music to HDTV.
Show hours: Friday: 10h00 - 17h00; Saturday: 10h00 - 18h00; Sunday: 10h00 - 17h00
