Digital Planet, partners gear up for the festive season

Johannesburg, 14 Dec 2004

Online electronics and technology store, Planet, has opened yet another kiosk in Look & Listen Store at the Clearwater and is in the process of opening its third at Menlyn Shopping Centre.

According to Mark Levy, director at Digital Planet, this is in an effort to expand Digital Planet`s product offering into new markets. He says it is not only to increase the company`s base but also to create a synergy between online and .

Neil Watson, also a director at Digital Planet, says the partnership is beneficial as sales are already exceeding expectations.

"We`ve seen increased customer awareness of our brand as a result of the partnership with Look & Listen and we feel that being associated with such a strong brand has increased our perceived brand value.

"We have already opened a kiosk in at Fourways Crossing and now Clearwater Mall. We are also in the process of opening at Menlyn shopping centre," he explains.

Last month, Digital Planet also partnered with 5FM in a deal which saw the station`s listeners able to get discount vouchers of up to 10% on all IT products and consumer electronics.

"5FM has also helped us tremendously with our exposure. Their team is a pleasure to work with and the response we have received has been strong. All in all, it has been a very exciting time for Digital Planet. We`ve come of age and our strong partnerships are paying dividends over the festive season," he adds.

Digital Planet has reported that the festive season has been very kind to it so far. "In November, our orders were up 50% more compared this time last year. We`ve seen a tremendous growth in the number of transactions as well as the value of transactions as people become more willing to make payments over the Internet."

He says the `find it cheaper` option, where shoppers request Digital Planet to match a cheaper price on the same product, has been extremely successful.

"The most popular products we have seen this festive season are digital cameras, iPods, MP3 players, memory, TVs and home entertainment systems. I think we`ve got our product range right this year and we`ve got some great plans on being even more competitive next year," concludes Watson.
