Dimension Data has been awarded the new Cisco IP Telephony Specialisation certification by Cisco Systems, an acknowledged world leader in the global trend to VOIP (voice over Internet Protocol).
Dimension Data is leading provider of IP telephony solutions to its corporate clients around the globe with the implementation of over 21 000 IP telephony handsets worldwide; 2 000 of these IP phones are installed in SA.
IP telephony technology allows for data, voice and video to be transmitted over a single, IP-based network infrastructure. It is rapidly becoming the communication platform of choice for enterprises around the world.
"IP telephony is a reality," says Jeff Jack, manager: technology marketing, Multiservice Networking, at Dimension Data SA. "IP telephony systems are being implemented successfully around the world, with SA ranking right up there with other early adopters."
Steve Midgley, director - Channels for Cisco in sub-Saharan Africa, says the Cisco IP Telephony Specialisation recognises partners like Dimension Data for their knowledge and expertise in selling, designing, installing and supporting a multi-service network solution.
"These partners are acknowledged for their proven technical know-how and ability to deliver services around IP.
"By choosing an IP Telephony Specialised partner, customers know they are dealing with a company with the core knowledge and skills required to deploy the technology," he adds.
According to Gartner, an estimated 10% of all new telephony business in Europe is voice over IP, with IP telephony expected to be mainstream by 2006. This trend is mirrored in SA with BMI-TechKnowledge predicting that VOIP spend will rise to R240 million in 2004, up from R8 million in 1999. (BMI-TechKnowledge December 2000).
"Cisco IP telephony is widely regarded as the VOIP enterprise architecture of the future," adds Jack. "The Dimension Data group is drawing on its global footprint to gain knowledge and best practice from around the world for the development and implementation of Cisco IP telephony solutions.
"In addition, Dimension Data is able to draw on its extensive experience in networking and conventional telephony to develop applications which augment Cisco`s basic IP telephony platform, Cisco Call Manager," Jack concludes.
