Dimension Data has celebrated the 13th consecutive year of a 100% matriculant pass rate of its Saturday School matriculant learners.
One-hundred percent of the 20 Grade 12 learners that attended Saturday School passed the programme, with a subject average of 70%, which is well above the national overall pass rate of 66.5% in 2006.
Over the past 13 years, 350 learners have graduated from the Saturday School Programme, Dimension Data`s flagship Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiative.
Allan Cawood, Dimension Data Middle East & Africa CEO, says: "Learners join the Saturday School programme in Grade 11 and for two years, over 80 weekends, attend lessons across a number of disciplines, including maths, science, and computer science lessons to supplement their weekday school learning. The Saturday tuition also covers life skills as a key objective of the programme, to ensure all learners are equipped with the required skills to succeed in a higher education environment."
The graduation class of 2007 includes learners from 13 schools in previously disadvantaged areas, including Tembisa, Alexandra, Diepsloot and Thokoza.
The Saturday School at The Campus is one element of a broader educational initiative supported by Dimension Data, which includes an e-learning element. The e-learning initiative, in 2007, provided supplemental learning to more than 1 600 learners in Alexandra, Diepsloot, Tembisa and Thokoza in Gauteng; and KwaDabeka in Durban. The Saturday School e-Learning Programme provides Grade 10, 11 and 12 learners with access to mathematics, science, English and life science content via a system known as Video-in, Knowledge-out (VIKO).
Dimension Data has set a goal of reaching 40 000 learners, via its e-learning initiative, by 2015.
