The 2008 FNB Whisky Live Festival aims to take both whisky connoisseurs and novices on an unforgettable journey through the allure, origins, flavours and history of whisky.
Running from 5 to 7 November in Cape Town and 12 to 14 November in Johannesburg, the sixth annual festival will once again attract international whisky distillers and ambassadors.
More than 180 local and international whiskies - including Scottish, American, South African and Irish brands, as well as whiskies from as far afield as Japan, India and Wales - will be showcased.
New whiskies and whisky-based liqueurs to be launched at this year`s festival include a liqueur by BenRiach, a pink whisky and a range of Japanese whiskies, as well as a collection of independent bottlings, presented by Whisky Magazine.
Festival-goers can sample and learn about a variety of popular and rare whiskies while mingling with the people behind the brands in the Tasting Hall, or attend one of the 12 workshops hosted by international master distillers, global brand ambassadors and whisky experts.
Taste, see, touch and do!
Of course, when the best whisky in the world is showcased, technology is not far behind!
During the event, the Toshiba Back to Basics Zone will incorporate tactile displays showing patrons how whisky is made. This year one of the new offerings is the Art of Blending Zone. In tandem with the Toshiba Back to Basics Zone, visitors will participate in an informative mini workshop, teaching them the skill involved in making a blended whisky.
Toshiba will also provide LCD screens showing whisky-making videos from around the world and will have notebooks set up so that visitors can go on virtual international whisky distillery tours.
Toshiba is giving away five double tickets to the 2008 FNB Whisky Live Festival to five ITWeb readers. The tickets are valued at R150 each.
