Diskeeper continue to dominate enterprise defragmenter market

Microsoft poll on Windows 2000 users finds Diskeeper will continue to dominate enterprise defragmenter market
Johannesburg, 24 Nov 1999

Although the release of Windows 2000 marks the first time an NT-based or NT-type operating system will have its own built in defragmenter, nearly 80 percent of users plan to upgrade to the popular Diskeeper product. This was discovered in a recent poll co-sponsored by Microsoft and software development partner, Executive Software International.

According to the report just released at Comdex in Las Vegas, 99 percent of Beta 3 and RC 1 users believe defragmenting is vital to maintaining system performance, and 2 in 3 already use a third party defragmenter. 73% named Diskeeper as their product of choice for defragmenting NT systems. These results will no doubt be disappointing to other vendors. With 80% of Windows 2000 users intending to upgrade to Diskeeper, it seems that competitors are unlikely to gain any ground in the lucrative enterprise utility market.

Executive Software`s European Operations Director, Sarah Lake, says the survey responses represent a natural trend. "As we were development with Microsoft on their built in defragmenter, we give Windows 2000 customers the highest level of compatibility, with an easy upgrade to our full featured Diskeeper product."

About the Poll

The study was commissioned by Microsoft and Executive Software International. Conducted by Broadcasters Network International, a market research company based in La Crescenta, California. The study was conducted on more than 491,000 Windows 2000 Beta 3 and RC 1 users.
