[VIDEO]Kevin Fine, 5fm DJ is now on show in a box on Johannesburg`s Corlett Drive, as part of an MTN promotion. However, Fine won`t need to suffer any of the hardships endured by US magician David Blaine when he lived in a box recently - Fine`s box is luxuriously appointed and equipped with cellular technology.
Fine will live in the three-by-four metre box for five days to show how far cellular technology has come over the last ten years. He will be released in five days` time at 10am on Freedom Day, 27 April.
MTN says the exercise is by no means an endurance test. Fine should feel right at home with an air conditioning unit, comfortable bed, mini fridge, desk, chair and laptop connected to the Internet via GPRS. Fine will be able to exit the box to go to the toilet and will order in food using his cellphone.
The 5fm DJ says he is "quietly confident " about his stay in the box and was blown away when he was told of the opportunity to do something never done before.
Mandisa Korri, MTN PR manager, says Fine will communicate with the world from the box solely through MTN cellular technology. The exercise has been submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records.
"Kevin will have access to the Internet, e-mail, be able to utilise MTN`s Cellsecure, which will enable to him to turn off his lights at his home and receive SMS alerts and pictures via MMS should there be any intrusion on his property, as well as transferring airtime to prepaid users via MTN`s Me2u service," she says.
Fine will be able to post messages on the LED screen outside his box and will have regular cross overs with 5fm, Good Hope and Metro FM. He will also be hosting his 5fm shows on Saturday and Sunday morning from the Perspex Box. He can be contacted on 083 123-0011. Two cameras will also give users the chance to see Fine.
