The Department of Communications (DOC) is working with the National Youth (NYS) to place 800 graduates in IT positions in government.

The DOC has revealed it is looking to the NYS to deliver the graduates to it for those individuals to be placed in local municipalities in their areas.

The students are expected to have qualifications in a wide range of IT fields, varying from an introduction to information systems, to systems analysis and design, and systems engineering.

The graduates will be enrolled in the DOC's E-Cadre Programme and will be deployed in DOC-related ICT infrastructure sites in a technical support capacity.

Some of the sites will include schools, clinics and police stations, with rural areas being prioritised in the programme.

Municipalities that form part of the initiative include:

* Eastern Cape: Alfred Nzo, Buffalo City, Chris Hani, Nelson Mandela, OR Tambo, Ukhahlamba, Mdansane, Motherwell
* Mpumalanga: Bushbuckridge
* Western Cape: Central Karoo, Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain
* KwaZulu-Natal: Ugu, Umzinyathi, Zululand, Umkhanyakude, Inanda, Kwamashu and Ntuzuma.
* Free State: Maluti A Phofong
* Northern Cape: Galeshewe, Kgalagadi
* Limpopo: Sekhukhune and Maruleng
* Gauteng: Alexander

Applications for the E-Cadre programme close on Friday. Application forms are also available at the post office and Further Training Colleges, which are also part of the programme.
