Sole Zimbabwean tyre manufacturer Dunlop Zimbabwe has reaped dramatic business benefits following its selection of IMPACT Encore, the ERP system from leading South African software house Syspro.
Dunlop Zimbabwe chose IMPACT Encore for its user-friendliness, quick and simple implementation, and because it required no customisation. The company needed to upgrade from a non-Y2K-compliant Data General mainframe, and timing was critical.
With an initial investment in IMPACT Encore of around R500 000, Dunlop Zimbabwe anticipates raising that figure to R1.2 million during the course of this year with the implementation of the manufacturing modules and training.
"Our time scale did not allow the luxury of involved customisation of any software," comments Dave Mathews, managing director of Dunlop Zimbabwe. "IMPACT Encore was implemented in record time, and this would not have been achieved without the dedication of those involved from both Dunlop and Syspro.
"Targets that were committed to were always met, and we cannot recommend any better team to work with than Syspro."
Implementation of the system kicked off in the second quarter of 1999 with the installation of IMPACT Encore's sales and stock modules for the Dunlop Harare Sales Depot, which accounts for approximately 70% of Dunlop Zimbabwe' s total sales. The system went live by mid-year and IMPACT Encore was then installed in the Bulawayo Depot.
This was followed in quick succession by installation of the financial and purchasing modules. The final stage was to install the quotes module along with the sales and stock modules for Dunlop Industrial Products, all of which was achieved by December 1999.
Commenting on the benefits delivered by IMPACT Encore, Mathews says the system has speeded up access to performance figures and increased the information available to decision makers. In addition, users have quickly adapted to working with IMPACT Encore, resulting in a substantial reduction in the company's error rate.
