E-business performance management solutions extended

Johannesburg, 09 Jan 2001

South African companies -enabling their businesses now have a smoother path into the New Economy.

This is thanks to Compuware`s EcoTools which "offer a core set of application management competencies that can ease the transition into an e-business model by building confidence in Internet-enabled applications," says Paul Bugala, research analyst at international research firm, IDC.

EcoTOOLS 7.2 from Compuware - a leader in the e-business performance management market - now manages performance on iPlanet, IBM Apache and Netscape servers along with support for the Oracle 8i database. In addition, Compuware EcoTOOLS is now able to monitor the utilisation of web and application servers with a new load balancing capability.

This latest release of EcoTOOLS, a key component of the Compuware EcoSYSTEMS suite, also provides enhanced support for Windows 2000, improved task scheduling and increased firewall support - each feature designed to optimise web performance.

"By extending EcoTOOLS solutions to key Internet platforms, Compuware is further demonstrating its commitment to providing successful application management tools to meet the performance needs of customers," says Brett Bester, account manager at Compuware Southern Africa.

Bester outlines some of the enhanced features of EcoTOOLS, from Web server performance monitoring, to expanded support for the Windows 2000 platform, and improved task scheduling and firewall support.

"In terms of web server performance monitoring, EcoTOOLS 7.2 provides performance reports focusing on the number of web server and web page hits, web server errors and other crucial details that enable administrators to easily e-business applications," he says.

Bester says EcoTOOLS 7.2 provides powerful graphs that indicate particular counters across multiple e-business platforms. This feature enables web managers to load balance web and application servers to compare which servers are over- and under-utilised throughout the day for peak performance.

" EcoTOOLS 7.2 also provides expanded support for Microsoft`s Windows 2000 Server and Professional Edition," he says. "Users can now operate EcoTOOLS` user and reporting consoles along with agents for providing greater details on e-business applications residing on this leading Microsoft platform.

"EcoTOOLS` control server for centralised performance management is also supported on the Windows 2000 Server," says Bester.

The latest version of EcoTOOLS also provides improved task scheduling and firewall support. EcoTOOLS` Task Wizard has been enhanced to allow more flexible task scheduling.

"Tasks can be automatically started, scheduled to run once a day or scheduled to start and stop at a future date. Expanded firewall support enables users to monitor e-business performance across multiple firewalls. Users can now also monitor through firewalls to reach intranets and the Internet," concludes Bester.
