Mindset Learn has partnered with corporate companies to build a R19 million ICT resource centre in eMalahleni, Mpumalanga.

The initiative is sponsored by Anglo American, the Mpumalanga Department of , the National Department of Basic Education, the Eskom Foundation, MTN SA Foundation and Vodacom Foundation.

The centre links up schools in the region by using satellite, enabling learners to actively participate in lessons without having to physically leave their classrooms.

Mindset Learn says it has loaded its content onto computers at the centre. The organisation provides assistance through a satellite-based technology platform that distributes multimedia educational content.

The Mpumalanga education department says the initiative shows the country's commitment to ICT in education. “Bringing ICT connectivity to our schools and educational institutions is crucial.”

The MEC for education in Mpumalanga, Reginah Mhaule, says despite positive developments in the ICT sector in SA, the majority of learners and schools do not have access to ICT infrastructure, especially in rural areas. She adds that initiatives like the resource centre will help address this challenge.

This learning resource is a prime example of the opportunities that exist for successful public-private partnerships, Mhaule notes.

This centre will be used by educators and learners throughout the Nkangala district, which covers Ogies, eMalahleni, Middelburg, Delmas, Belfast, Machadodorp, Dullstroom, Hendrina, Kwa Mhlanga and Siyabuswa villages.
