EA's PopCap bid can exceed $1bn
The deal could actually end up being worth as much as $1.3 billion, depending on PopCap's ability to meet certain performance milestones.
PopCap, a rarity for Web companies, has been around for a decade, consistently pumping out games like Bejeweled, Plants vs Zombies, and Zuma.
Zynga is no stranger to acquisitions, having purchased developers like Newtoy, Area/Code, DNA Games, Conduit Labs, and, most recently, Five Mobile. And that's just a few, says Gamezebo.
PopCap would have strengthened Zynga's stranglehold on Facebook even more, as its current social games command nearly 20 million monthly active users. And, if rumours are to be believed, the developer will be bringing even more games to Facebook in the future.
According to Bloomberg BusinessWeek, shares of EA fell in premarket trading last week following the video game publisher's announcement that it will buy PopCap Games for at least $750 million.
The company also said its fiscal first-quarter results will be better than it expected, but issued a second-quarter forecast below analyst predictions, saying that expenses from the purchase will weigh down its results for the July-September period.
Its shares fell 80 cents, or 3.3%, to $23.37 in pre-market trading.
