Paying a traffic fine has traditionally meant sacrificing a large portion of time, with a trip to the issuing traffic department, usually greeted by long queues and varying levels of frustration.
Now some traffic departments are switching on to the fact that by making the payment process easier for traffic offenders, more will pay.
That was the theory behind the decision for traffic departments for the City of Cape Town: Oostenberg Administration (Tygerberg Administration currently undergoing implementation), George and Ballito Bay to adopt the EasyPay service for anywhere, anytime traffic fine payments.
EasyPay, the easy payment service of JSE-listed Prism Holdings, provides consumers with a secure, and convenient channel for the payment of their municipal and Telkom accounts, SABC TV licences, and a host of other services via the Internet (www.easypay.co.za), by telephone through the VoicePorte Call Centre (083-123-9000) or through a variety of retail outlets including Pick `n Pay checkouts and Shoprite Checkers Money Market kiosks nationwide, and in the Western Cape, Foodworld, Saveworld and Hypersavers stores.
"Consumers have been quick to adopt this payment channel for the payment of traffic fines," says Mike Smith, CEO of Prism TranSwitch Services (PTSS), the transaction and processing subsidiary of Prism Holdings, which developed and maintains the EasyPay service. "Thousands of payments are going through the system per month, often from offenders who don`t live in the area served by the traffic departments.
"This new payment option for traffic fines brings with it a number of benefits including the ability to pay fines that were received while travelling, that would otherwise have to be paid by sending a cheque or postal order via snail mail," Smith explains.
"The EasyPay service eliminates the inconvenience of having to queue at a post office to obtain a postal order if the department doesn`t accept cheques, and queue again at the traffic department or risk snail mail. There are no additional service charges for the consumer, making EasyPay a cost-effective solution for busy individuals to pay their traffic fines.
"Consumers can pay any bill using the EasyPay service if there is an EasyPay logo or chevron signs >>> in front of an account number printed at the bottom of their regular account statement. And payments can be made using cash, bank cards or cheques," Smith concludes.
