Ebay rival releases branded mobile phone
China's largest online auction and retail Web site Taobao.com plans to brand its name on a new mobile phone, reports PC World.
Taobao plans to release the phone, which will be co-branded by Lenovo Mobile, and come with a pre-installed Taobao application. The handset is part of ongoing efforts by the company to develop the wireless market by drawing more mobile users.
By putting its name on the handset, Taobao is following Amazon.com, which started selling electronics accessories and blank DVDs under the AmazonBasics brand name.
Infineon, Nokia to develop 1Gbps LTE radios
Infineon Technologies and Nokia will cooperate on the development of RF transceivers for use in long term evolution (LTE) wireless communications, states EETimes.
The work could lead to systems which can deliver 1Gbps data transfer rates. The agreement covers a non-exclusive collaboration to make sure Nokia's baseband modem technologies work with Infineon's RF ICs.
As Nokia is prepared to license out its modem designs, the collaboration will give the electronics industry access to complete modem solutions for HSPA through LTE, says Infineon.
HP iPAQ Glisten coming
AT&T and HP say the HP iPAQ Glisten will soon be available in the US, according to V3.
The device is AT&T's first smartphone featuring an active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (Amoled) screen. It uses Windows Mobile 6.5 for its operating system, and features a qwerty keyboard and a 3.1MP camera.
“The product has been designed to help meet the demands of our business customers,” said Michael Woodward, vice-president of AT&T's mobility phone portfolio. “As such, the device features several Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
