ECM growth spurt
Latest Gartner research shows that, driven by the need to manage content at the enterprise level, the global market for content management software is expected to grow at a rate of 12% a year to $4.2 billion by 2010, reports Silicon Republic.
This year alone worldwide enterprise content management (ECM) market revenue is expected to total $2.9 billion, up 12.8% on last year. The reason for the anticipated growth is the need for organisations to control the vast amounts of unstructured data residing on company networks, ranging from word processing documents, spreadsheets, rich media files and other documents.
Gartner warns a company will need to make this content available to workers, business partners, customers and applications across the organisation to automate business processes, increase efficiencies and reduce costs.
IBM ups ECM support
Two IBM programs that offer user-customised portal access to enterprise applications and content management for collaborative Web-based applications are now available on HP-UX on the Integrity server line, reports IT Jungle.
Workplace Web Content Management V6.0 (WWCM), introduced last July on a number of platforms, will be available for this platform immediately, on various hard media from June.
Since HP doesn't have a middleware product of its own, keeping its foot in the data centre door with WebSphere and WWCM is a good strategy toward trying to replace HP-UX iron with AIX or Linux alternatives.
Google's 'best' ECM
Mediasurface has been named Google's Best Enterprise Content Management ECM Partner in the Partner Connect 07 Awards, reports Manufacturing Talk.
In January, Mediasurface and Google signed an agreement to integrate the Google Search Appliance (GSA) into the Morello enterprise Web content management system. The GSA enables individuals to search content and data on all the company's Web sites, servers, and content and document management systems in a similar way to searching the Internet.
"Mediasurface has developed a strong integration between the Google Search Appliance and their Morello CMS and this has ensured their customers benefit from access to both a great CMS and highly relevant search results," says Robert Whiteside, Google Enterprise Division.
