Economy stalls Oracle suit migration
A difficult economy is among the key reasons organisations are delaying their Oracle E-Business Suite R12 upgrades from versions 11i and earlier, states Search Oracle.
The company says generalising on why organisations are slow to migrate to Oracle EBS 12 is difficult because each organisation uses the applications in different ways. However, it says, economy is a factor.
“Getting funding for back-office systems is hard enough, so we need to be effective,” says one customer. “There always seems to be other, more important priorities or items on our wish list. An upgrade to R12 will probably not make it to the top of the list until Oracle decides to discontinue support.”
Symantec offers virtualised business apps
Symantec revealed it will offer Symantec ApplicationHA and Symantec VirtualStore, two solutions that will provide customers the ability to confidently virtualise their business critical applications and minimise storage costs on the VMware platform, writes IIFL.
ApplicationHA and VirtualStore are the result of extensive collaboration between Symantec and VMware, as the companies work closely to help customers accelerate the adoption of virtualisation to mainstream applications.
Symantec ApplicationHA, based on Veritas Cluster Server technology, will provide high availability for business critical applications through application level visibility and control in VMware environments.
Firms eye mobile BI apps
Cambridge-based Endeca Technologies and Del Mar-based Mellmo say they have formed a strategic partnership to share their respective technologies, which are focused on mobile business intelligence applications, reveals Xconomy.
The companies plan to integrate their flagship products, Endeca Latitutde and Roambi ES3, which will give authorised users the ability to query a corporate database from mobile devices.
For example, instead of simply viewing reports as Roambi graphic displays on an iPhone or iPad, a user can ask, “How many units were sold in China between January and March?”
