EDS announces new solutions strategy for Teamcenter portfolio

"Fast to Value" solutions to be supported by multiple product innovations and releases in 2003
Johannesburg, 28 Feb 2003

EDS has announced its new Teamcenter strategy for 2003, and will focus on delivering "Fast to Value" business process domain solutions built on the flagship product lifecycle management (PLM) portfolio. The business process domain solutions build on the new, consolidated Teamcenter platform, which provides the PLM digital enterprise backbone.

EDS will centre Teamcenter`s new 2003 offerings on the major phases of the product lifecycle, from initial product planning through mature product support. In addition to the new domain solutions, EDS also plans to introduce new Teamcenter solutions for industry-focused business challenges.

Both the modular platform environment and the first of the integrated Fast to Value Solutions are available immediately.

"Teamcenter`s industry and domain solutions ensure quick implementation and a rapid return on investment (ROI) for fast time-to-value. The business process domain and industry solutions benefit from the integration of Teamcenter`s proven portfolio technologies, including the market`s leading open collaboration platform," said Tony Affuso, president of EDS PLM Solutions.

"EDS is the market leader in PLM, and we`re leading the way with Teamcenter," Affuso said. "We`re bringing together our consulting expertise and best practices in targeted Teamcenter solutions that meet the critical business needs of our clients and assure them a rapid return on their PLM investment."

Business process domain solutions

The Teamcenter business process domain solutions strategy addresses the needs of five key corporate functions by delivering modular domain solutions that build on Teamcenter`s digital PLM backbone. These focused solutions provide fast return on investment within each function:

* Plan: Focusing on product and portfolio planning

* Define: Focusing on the demands of product development

* Build: Focusing on the increasing information complexity of digital manufacturing

* Support: Focusing on the opportunities of the in-service market

* Manage and Collaborate: Enabling a digital enterprise backbone for "closed loop" lifecycle knowledge management

"New Teamcenter solutions built on the open, integrated platform enable clients to take a comprehensive view of their product lifecycle," Affuso said. "Industry and lifecycle domain solutions provide real business value that aligns with clients` primary business drivers."

"Our goal is satisfying our clients, and that means looking at the product from all aspects of the product lifecycle," said Claude Sommer, database information manager, EADS Telecom. "Teamcenter is the backbone that gives us full access to the product information from design to manufacturing to maintenance and repair to recycling. With Teamcenter, we can respond to our clients immediately."

Industry solutions

By teaming with industry leaders like Procter & Gamble in the consumer packaged goods industry and Northrop Grumman in Aerospace and Defense, EDS also delivers solutions, developed on the new Teamcenter platform, addressing industry-specific processes.

These solutions build a level of experience, industry standards and best practices on the domain solutions and are production-ready for fast ROI. The enhanced version of Teamcenter Aerospace and Defense is available with this platform release, and enhanced versions of Teamcenter Automotive Supplier and Teamcenter High Tech Electronics will be available in the first quarter, along with the newest Teamcenter solution, Teamcenter Consumer and Packaged Goods.

"The Teamcenter PLM platform is our best-in-breed choice for collaborative product design," said Tom Massung, Associate Director, IT Business Solutions -- PLM, Procter & Gamble. "Because EDS is aligning its Teamcenter solutions with the specific requirements of consumer packaged goods product, package and manufacturing process design, we are significantly impacting a top priority for P&G -- providing better products to our consumers faster through the virtual testing of more ideas, lowering the cost of these ideas and getting these ideas to market faster."
