EDS reported today that it has been awarded a multimillion-rand contract by Johannesburg Water. Dubbed Watersolve, the project is to install and integrate enterprise software aimed at streamlining both business and operational processes. The contract has been awarded to a consortium led by EDS Enterprise Solutions.
Other members of the consortium are Waymark Infotech (formerly Xcel Information Technologies), which is installing document management software from Documentum; Warwick Africa, the local solution provider for Hansen Utilities; and LabWare Africa, which will provide real-time management of Johannesburg Water`s laboratories.
The black economic empowerment member of the consortium is Intesol Corporation, a longstanding partner of EDS Enterprise Solutions. Intesol will be working alongside the EDS team in installing several modules of enterprise resource planning software from SAP. Six previously-disadvantaged Technikon students will form part of the Intesol team, thus gaining invaluable working experience.
The integration between SAP and Hansen will be a first for SA. "We will be leveraging our global experience at integrating SAP with other systems, as well as ensuring that the appropriate skills transfer to local people is carried out," says EDS Enterprise Solutions executive, Gerhard Greyling.
"This is the advantage of dealing with a company like EDS, which can call on a vast body of expertise from around the world. We are very excited at the opportunity to help this newly-formed utility meet its ambitions to provide all Johannesburg residents with access to water and sanitation services in a manner which is both customer-focused and financially viable."
