EDS and Dell have extended their strategic relationship, expanding Dell`s preferred provider status with EDS and establishing EDS as a provider of select Dell customer support services. Financial terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
EDS standardises on Dell
EDS has selected Dell as its global provider of Intel-based servers, notebook and desktop computers to support EDS` Consistent Office Environment effort that standardises computing hardware and software for more than 100 000 employees in 60 countries worldwide. Dell also will assist EDS in the delivery of support services for EDS` internal computer systems.
"We selected Dell since it is an EDS alliance partner, a high quality producer of computer systems, and because it continues to grow and stay ahead of the market," said Terry Milholland, EDS` chief information and technology officer. "Maintaining a consistent global process for procuring Dell products as our desktop computing standard will improve reliability and cost effectiveness for EDS and for our customers."
Dell also will have primary provider status for Intel-based computer systems sold to EDS clients around the world. The companies have worked closely together in the past to sell and deliver technology solutions to numerous EDS clients, including the State of Michigan, Dow Chemical, Commonwealth Bank in Australia, and the US Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) program.
Joe Marengi, senior vice-president of Dell Americas, sees the relationship with EDS as an opportunity to introduce additional customers to a more efficient way of managing their information technology. "By combining the capabilities of EDS with Dell`s products, services and direct model, our two companies can help deliver a lower total cost of ownership for EDS and their clients," Marengi said.
EDS provides customer support services to Dell
The agreements announced today also include EDS support for Dell customer service efforts in the US and Latin America. In Latin America, EDS will be a Dell service provider for certain in-warranty support. In the US, EDS will provide help desk and customer care services.
"These agreements demonstrate both companies` commitment to providing our global clients with best-in-class enterprise offerings from the industry`s best providers," said Phil Clark, president, US Southwest, EDS Operations Solutions. "We believe as our relationship with Dell continues to evolve, we will be moving toward the goal of creating the next generation computing concepts which will improve the world of computing for enterprises worldwide."
