eEye Digital Security releases free intrusion prevention solution for Microsoft Web servers

Johannesburg, 22 Jul 2003

SecureData, a member of the JSE-listed ERP.com Group and the southern African enterprise partner for eEye Digital Security, today announced the immediate availability of SecurellS Web Server Protection - Personal Edition.

SecurellS protects Windows 2003 server and Windows 2000 server editions. Available at no cost for personal, non-commercial usage, SecurellS Personal Edition provides unmatched firewall, intrusion and application protection to guard Microsoft Web servers against worms, buffer overflows, hybrid attacks and other types of known and unknown security threats.

SecurellS is designed to address the constant need for security patch deployment on Microsoft servers. More than 100 vulnerabilities have been discovered in Windows servers over the last four years. Worms such as CodeRed and Nimda exposed the lack of proactive patch deployment by Windows server users and resulted in significant damage. As an intrusion prevention application, SecurellS protects even unpatched Microsoft web servers.

"SecurellS provides web administrators with steadfast protection for the weakest link in the network security chain and the most commonly attacked access point - the Web server. Now, personal users of Microsoft IIS can fortify their defences and not have to constantly worry about being impacted by inherent web server operating system weaknesses," commented Jan Coetzee, Director of SecureData. "This is yet another example of eEye's commitment to the overall state of network security."

SecurellS works as an ISAPI filter within Microsoft IIS to block potentially damaging malicious activity and prevents even unpatched Web servers from being compromised. SecurellS is able to stop all types of attacks (e.g. buffer overflows, parser evasions, directory traversals, etc) and prevent unauthorised access and/or damage to the Web server.

A fully supported, scalable version of SecurellS Web Server Protection is available from SecureData. The commercial version of SecurellS has advanced technology that enables complete enterprise web protection functionality, including: centralised management of security events, integration with third party security event management systems, enterprise-level database integration, trend analysis and customisable reporting.
