With more notebooks making their way into the business market each year, it`s a given that users are becoming more reliant on the benefits mobile computing affords them.
"As any mobile warrior will testify to, few offerings today afford an adequate level of control and the flexibility required to adapt notebooks to multiple applications, without digging down into hardware and systems settings," says Traci Maynard, Acer product manager at Tarsus Technologies.
"To address this gap in the market, Acer has incorporated a single, easy to use tool called eManager. Available across its Travelmate 3200, 6000 and 8000 range of notebooks, eManager affords mobile execs the scale of control and flexibility they have craved for so long," Maynard continues.
Accessed through a single `quick-launch button` called the `Empowering key` located above the Travelmate keyboard, eManager consists of three modules which, through an intuitive and friendly interface, allow users to make changes to their most used devices` configuration.
"The first module, namely eSetting, gives users access to a broad range of notebook settings. This includes their notebook`s display-device settings, password settings, SmartCard configuration (if their model of Travelmate includes SmartCard functionality), detailed system information, and the ability to change their boot sequence and configure other BIOS settings," says Maynard.
"The second module within eManager is called ePresentation and as the name suggests, allows users to easily configure their notebook on the fly for presentations. This intuitive tool enables connectivity to a portable projector in matter of seconds, choosing from the two most-common projector resolutions used today. Similarly, returning the notebook to the user`s chosen resolution is as simple as a right-click," Maynard explains.
The third module, namely ePowerManagement, allows users to modify their power saving profiles and get the most out of their notebook while operating on battery power.
"While Microsoft Windows XP has built-in power saving practices and profiles, using Acer`s ePowerManagement tool allows users to gain up to 20% more battery life over the standard Windows profiles," Maynard says.
"By default ePowerManagement gives users access to four pre-defined modes that meet the most common battery-usage requirements and the option of creating up to three custom power schemes. The tool also includes a real-time task bar battery status icon and utilisation indicators to keep users in-the-know," Maynard says.
"Essentially, with so little differentiation between specifications, speeds and feeds from all brands of notebook today, users are looking towards value-added features as contributing criteria to their buying decision. So far, the response to Acer eManager has been extremely positive and ease of use features like eManager provide a vital differentiator for notebook buyers," Maynard concludes.
