Embarcadero extends cross-platform support for Job Scheduler 2.0

Johannesburg, 26 Mar 2002

Embarcadero Africa has announced the local availability of Embarcadero Job Scheduler 2.0, its enterprise scheduler that enables companies to automate almost any task across Windows NT/2000 and Unix operating systems.

By providing enterprise job scheduling with client access from a central console, Embarcadero Job Scheduler helps reduce the burden on system administrators of job scheduling, without the extreme cost typically associated with these tools.

"Job scheduling tools are high on the wish list of every system administrator," says Alan Raubenheimer, CEO of Embarcadero Africa, "but these tools are typically very expensive and their implementation can take months and be fraught with technical difficulty. In addition, they typically have to fit into a grand framework, which customers have to buy into. Embarcadero Job Scheduler 2.0 addresses these challenges."

Daily job scheduling can be complicated or time-consuming for DBAs (database administrators), developers and operators who have to constantly build, manage and deploy jobs. Database professionals need a scheduling solution that will help them manage routine tasks efficiently. Embarcadero Job Scheduler delivers the robustness of an enterprise scheduler and centralises the management of all scheduled tasks, regardless of platform or job types.

"We were looking for a scheduling solution that was comprehensive, reliable and easier to use than our existing solution," says Denise Fraebel, database administrator at Siemens. "With Embarcadero Job Scheduler, sharing information about all jobs across the enterprise is simple and intuitive. The reusability of features, such as calendaring, notification and jobs, helps increase productivity and lower operating costs."

"Embarcadero Job Scheduler is a natural extension of our portfolio of products based on cross-platform usability, interfaces designed with the customer in mind and low cost of ownership," adds Raubenheimer. "With added features such as comprehensive Unix support and a central console, full dependency chaining with success and failure outcomes, Embarcadero Job Scheduler allows system administrators and DBAs to streamline their job scheduling activities and focus on other vital tasks."

Embarcadero Job Scheduler 2.0 features:

Central console: Manage enterprise-wide Unix shell scripts, Windows command jobs, and SQL-based jobs from a central console - across Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase and IBM DB2 UDB databases. Robust notification: receive automatic notification of job completion or abnormal termination by e-mail, pager or network broadcasts.

Advanced calendaring: Create a customisable calendar solution for scheduling database maintenance and other routine tasks.

Different job types: Generate a variety of job types including command line and SQL jobs.

Search agent: Create custom return codes based on user-defined text strings, allowing for auto-correction job chains.
