EMC acquires Kaezon Systems
EMC has signed an agreement to purchase electronic discovery software firm Kazeon Systems. The deal is expected to close this autumn, and EMC said the acquisition will allow it to improve discovery and document retrieval for its customers, reports Computing.co.uk.
The company will deliver a hardware appliance that can handle any electronically stored information held in an enterprise, including data on laptops, within content management systems, and on other applications like Microsoft SharePoint, Exchange and Lotus Domino.
"As legal, regulatory and governance requirements continue to become more stringent and expensive, it is now mandatory for customers to have a solid in-house strategy for information governance and e-discovery," says Andrew Cohen, VP and GM of EMC's e-discovery business.
Dell, Brocade extend storage offering
Dell has expanded its reseller agreement with storage switch maker Brocade Communications Systems and will now sell external fibre channel-over-Ethernet (FCOE), 10GbE switches and the host bus adapters needed to connect servers to high-end storage arrays, states Computerworld.
The companies also said they will be jointly developing software to better manage virtualised server/storage environments. Dell is already reselling Brocade's embedded fibre channel switches in its Dell M1000e and Dell PowerEdge Series blade servers as well as in its storage area networks.
It will now also resell Brocade's 8000 FCOE Switch and Brocade's DCX Backbone director, which enables data centre consolidation and network convergence.
Hitachi unveils external storage devices
Hitachi has unveiled its first external storage solutions in Singapore for the Asia-Pacific market, says HardwareZone.
Following closely after the acquisition of Fabrik earlier this year, the new Hitachi branded products include the SimpleTough portable USB drive, a water-resistant and shock-resistant external hard drive; and the SimpleDrive mini portable USB drive.
The company says both external storage solutions leverage Hitachi's hard drives and global brand, creating additional advantages for road warriors, consumers and small office/home office users.
