EMC Corporation, the world leader in information storage, today announced that Rainer Erlat has joined the company as senior vice-president of Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
An accomplished 22-year veteran of Hewlett-Packard (HP) in Europe, Erlat, 47, was most recently vice-president and GM of sales for the EMEA Enterprise Systems Group at HP.
He will be responsible for driving EMC`s growth and continued leadership throughout both established and new markets by delivering and supporting the full range of EMC automated networked storage solutions to organisations across the EMEA region.
Reporting to Frank Hauck, executive vice-president of Customer Operations, Erlat will lead EMC`s EMEA-based sales and service organisations, incorporating more than 3 000 information storage professionals in 28 countries.
The EMEA region represents approximately 25% of EMC`s total worldwide revenue. "The European market offers significant growth opportunities for EMC," said Hauck. "Our goal is to have EMEA represent more than 30% of the company`s total revenue over the next few years. No matter where you go, organisations of all sizes need simpler, more cost-effective ways to manage their growing volumes of information. EMC and our partners are delivering the most advanced automated networked storage solutions available to meet these needs. We are extremely fortunate to welcome an executive with Rainer`s background and experience, who really understands this region and the needs of its customers."
A native of Germany, Erlat joined HP in 1979 and spent the next 22 years in various customer-facing management positions. He was named HP`s vice-president and GM of Sales for EMEA Enterprise Systems in 1999, responsible for the service and distribution of storage, software, servers, PCs, printers, business solutions and services to customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Prior to joining HP, Erlat studied general management and organisation at the University of Augsburg, Germany.
