EMC delivers 'day-one` support for EMC CLARiiON with ATA

Johannesburg, 18 Mar 2003

EMC has announced that the entire EMC portfolio of open management software fully supports the EMC CLARiiON with ATA storage systems.

"As a result, EMC customers can further realise the economic advantages offered by ATA technology by effectively and efficiently managing increasing amounts of online data with EMC`s range of software applications," says Alex Robertson, country systems engineering and professional services manager, EMC SA.

In addition to the CLARiiON-specific management and functional software, the immediate availability of EMC open storage software solutions further enables customers to manage storage resources based on service levels or policy-based guidelines. This occurs by allowing customers to align the cost characteristics of specific storage media with a range of data availability and performance requirements.

"As a result, customers can maximise the information management, mobility and protection capabilities of EMC open software to leverage the flexibility and cost benefits associated with ATA technology," says Robertson.

In keeping with EMC`s commitment to automate and simplify the management of customer`s networked storage infrastructures, CLARiiON with ATA will be able to take advantage of the management applications that comprise EMC`s AutoIS strategy.

EMC ControlCenter, for example, will allow customers to simplify the configuration and control of CLARiiON with ATA. Additionally, CLARiiON with ATA customers will be able to utilise all of the applications in the ControlCenter family of products such as StorageScope, Automated Resource Manager and SAN Manager.

The introduction of CLARiiON with ATA delivers significant flexibility and cost-effectiveness across the entire range of data protection, recovery and backup alternatives available to customers.

"Not only does CLARiiON with ATA enable customers to improve service levels for backup and restore over traditional tape solutions, this new offering creates a range of opportunities for disk-based recovery solutions," states Robertson.

In taking advantage of the data protection opportunities offered by ATA drives, CLARiiON with ATA supports EMC Data Manager (EDM) for high performance backup-to-disk and recovery, as well as EMC Replication Manager (ERM) for automated recovery, and data availability processes.

This integration offers EMC customers a suite of products and functionality to meet their data management, operational recovery and backup/recovery requirements at decreasing cost points, while delivering the basis for data lifecycle management.
