EMC has joined forces with Oracle Corporation in the launch of its new database and application server, Oracle9i.
EMC technology was used as the information storage infrastructure during the development and testing of Oracle9i. EMC is also ensuring interoperability and integration of Oracle9i with EMC systems and software for the more than 9 000 global installations running a combination of Oracle and EMC technology.
With its patent-pending Oracle9i Real Application Clusters running on EMC information storage solutions, customers can start with a single server and add more capacity as they grow, providing more scalability with less hardware.
Additional work to further integrate new Oracle9i features with EMC software is underway in the areas of management and the deployment of clusters.
"The combination of Oracle9i and EMC systems and software will help organisations do more with less, which is a key customer requirement in these challenging times," says Paul van der Lingen, Business Development manager at EMC SA. "EMC and Oracle have always shared a common information-centric vision that has become the backbone of our long-standing alliance. By working together to give customers the ability to centrally manage and scale all of their information on a single platform, we are allowing them to significantly drive down management costs and improve their total cost of ownership."
"Oracle9i provides a consolidated, server independent database infrastructure that enables more information to be managed and scaled from a centralised platform," says Michael Rocha, senior vice president, Platform Technologies Division at Oracle. "Oracle and EMC are working to deliver a combination of technology that maximises IT resources, while helping ensure that the information infrastructure can scale and is always available."
EMC has worked closely with Oracle as well as Cisco through the ECOstructure (EMC, Cisco, Oracle Infrastructure) initiative to integrate the Oracle9i Application Server into the initiative`s latest technology blueprint Accelerated. The blueprint, which details best-practices for deploying integrated solutions from the three companies is available at www.eecostructure.com.
