EMC delivers MS Exchange protection
EMC has introduced disaster recovery and networked storage technologies for Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, writes InformationWeek.
The integrated set of technologies uses the e-mail server's application programming interfaces, including Exchange's replication API.
In using the latter, EMC has created a software utility that integrates synchronous replication into Exchange's architecture.
Recovery solutions big in 2010
According to its latest channel survey, CA partners have high hopes for the recovery management market this year, states Computing.co.uk.
The software company questioned more than 900 partners in 17 EMEA countries including the UK, and 94% of respondents claimed they anticipated spending on recovery solutions - including backup, business continuity and disaster recovery - in 2010 will be at least equal to 2009 levels.
Interestingly, 41% expect expenditure to be higher than last year. Chris Ross, EMEA and Asia-Pacific vice-president for CA's recovery management and data modelling business unit, says: “As businesses emerge from the recession, data and recovery management remain a top IT priority.”
Hardware to blame for drive crashes
External hard drive maker Freecom has revealed that almost half of all hard drive crashes are caused by hardware failure, reports RegHardware.
Unveiling a low-cost data recovery service, Freecom says its internal estimates suggest manufacturing flaws and age together account for 49% of all hard drive failures.
By contrast, human error - moving the drive when then heads are flying, dropping laptops and suchlike - only account for 28% of cases.
