EMC enhances Avamar 6.0

The firm revealed enhanced integration between Avamar and the Data Domain de-duplication storage systems through new software called Data Domain Boost.

Data Domain Boost allows Avamar to direct backups to the Data Domain systems so that companies can decide how they want to assign workloads.

According to ComputerWorld, the new version of Avamar also includes changed block tracking support, which tracks incremental changes to blocks and files so that when an administrator needs to perform a data restore, only the changed data is needed, alleviating the need to restore full backups.

Meanwhile, eWeek reveals that the Avamar upgrade also handles backups for Oracle, Microsoft Exchange, and SQL server images.

When used in coordination with Data Domain, which has the ability to support multiple workloads simultaneously, Avamar 6.0 gives IT administrators a number of new options in timesaving.
